Thornton le Dale
On the banks of the crystal clear beck in Thornton le Dale lies one of England’s most photographed thatched cottages – a beautiful scene which you may recognise from appearing on countless calendars and chocolate boxes over the years. As you meander through the village, admire the setting which in 1907 was voted ‘the most beautiful in Yorkshire’, arguably it should still hold that title today. The first of December sees the annual Christmas lights ‘Switch On’ by the Village Lights Committee, by whom money is raised all year round for this festive event.
Accommodation in Thornton le Dale is varied, with a decent selection of bed and breakfasts, self catering cottages and campsites.
Thornton le Dale lies on the A170, 2 miles east of Pickering and 11 miles north of Malton.
