Situated in a beautiful location in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the small, rural town of Sedbergh offers visitors much more than just spectacular scenery. Positioned in the foothills of the magnificent Yorkshire Dales, Sedbergh provides an ideal base for those wanting to explore the many walks of the Howgill Fells - a compact cluster of hills rising to around 2000 feet and stretching for about 40 square miles.
Twinned with Zrece in Slovenia since 2005, and an English ‘Book Town’ since 2001, Sedbergh is certainly an interesting and diverse place. Sedbergh is a haven for book worms; pick up out of print volumes for your collections, browse the nine bookshops selling an array of second hand stock or simply revel in the printing, publishing and writing of new books that is happening all around you. Alternatively, try a round of golf at Sedbergh’s very own nine hole golf course or have a go at the ever-popular pony trekking.
If you’re visiting Sedbergh towards the end of May then you’ll love the annual gala; all proceeds go towards events for local primary school children. With May-pole dancing, beer tents and fancy dress there is something for all the family to enjoy at this action packed experience. Sedbergh is close to the M6, just off junction 37.
